Next weekend, we’ll be hosting an exciting Christmas events for the kids in conjunction with Little Saigon Radio so we need some volunteers.  There will be a variety of crafts, singing, dancing, and other fun activities! This should be the start of a new annual event with the radio station so we look forward to making it a success. Remember to wear your LAH T-shirt! Please come out and help children learn about the spirit of Christmas.  See you there!

It is LAH’s 5th anniversary! Come celebrate our family-style Thanksgiving dinner! Everyone is kindly required to bring something good to eat & share. It is mandatory for all old/new/current members & prospective members (who have emailed us) to come to this event. Unfortunately, since we will have a full house we ask that you do not bring a guest. However, parents and siblings are more than welcome to come with you! This will be a fun filled event that will consist of lots of icebreakers, so it will be a great opportunity for everyone to mingle and get to know each other more in the LAH family. New members will need to bring $10 to buy our LAH shirts. For those who come, there may even be a surprise take home gift for everyone! Once again, please RSVP with Kesia by Monday, November 24th, through emailing her and letting her know that you have received this email and confirming that you are coming, if you are bringing family, and what type of food you are bringing so we don’t have too much of one kind.

Lend A Hand will be having an officer/member get-together this weekend since it’s summer time! We are expecting all officers and members to come out to this event. Don’t worry about the admission tickets and skate rentals because it’s all FREE! Also, if you are planning to play broomball (which is very fun) make sure that you bring tennis shoes/sneakers that you won’t mind getting messed up.
If you are planning to attend this social please RSVP with Kesia by Friday, July 11th, at 6:00 p.m., so we will have a better idea of how many are coming. Lend A Hand will be having a car wash fundraiser this Saturday. For those who did not know, Lend A Hand has made it into the final three this year for uNAVSA’s CPP (http://conference.unavsa.org/2008/cpp.html)! In order to lower the costs of going to this conference, officers and members who have made a commitment to fly to Portland, Oregon to help Lend A Hand win CPP needs your support & help. We are in need of a minimum of 12 volunteers for this car wash. However, the more the better! If you are planning to come help out, please email Victoria or leave a phone message by July 4th at 9:00 p.m. Wear your LAH shirt, come out, and support your organization!

To thank all the volunteers who come out to help, there will be a POOL PARTY at Dr. Duc’s house on Saturday at 5 p.m., right after the drive which will end at 4 p.m. There is a giant pool, a hot little jacuzzi, a basketball court, and delicious CATERED food. All volunteers who have or will volunteer are eligible to go. Bring your bathing suits and swimming trunks and have fun, you deserve it. If you don’t have transportation, we will arrange it so do not worry, we want you there. Please RSVP by Thursday, June 12th, at the latest so that the blood center can make preparations for this event. Procrastinators will have to miss out. You can RSVP by emailing Loc.

As of today, we have registered over 2700 people into the National Marrow Registry, and we could not have done it without all the LAH volunteers who came out and put so much heart into it. However, since June 21st is the best date for Michelle to get a transplant, this weekend, 6/14-15, will be the LAST MAJOR bone marrow drive for her. We still need as many people as we can this weekend, let’s make it the BIGGEST one yet! And while we have high hopes that one of these donors will be a match for Michelle, it is a fact that at least one of these donors will be a match for other leukemia patients. So, if you have not volunteered, now is the time to do it; if you have never made sacrifices for anybody else in your life, now is the time to do it; if you have never saved someone’s life, now you can.

Lend A Hand will be manning 4 booths at Hoi Cho Tet 2008 and we need volunteers for facepainting, hairwrapping, games, and more for the following shifts:

Shift 1 – 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Shift 2 – 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm.
Shift 3 – 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

If you can help out, please let Huyen know via email at huyentran@lendahandvyo.org as soon as possible with the shift(s) you would like. If you cannot facepaint or hairwrap, don’t worry! There will be training the night before.

TET season is coming up soon, very soon and we need you guys to help out. Lion dancing during Tet is the second major way that we raise money besides the gala. We need lion dancers and we need to practice. If you cannot lion dance, we can teach you to play the instruments. If you guys know any indoor places that we can have lion dance practices at, please let any officers know. Come out and practice and help raise money!
