Bone Marrow Drive

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

LAH successfully organized a huge Bone Marrow Drive campaign at local churches and temples all around Houston. Vietnamese people were educated about leukemia and its risks, and about how to become potential marrow donors. Here’s an interesting fact: Houston has registered a total of 542 Vietnamese, since 1991. From Jan. of 2006 to Jan. of 2007, only 97 were registered. In one day alone, LAH registered about 250 Vietnamese! In just one day, LAH increased the Vietnamese donor count in Houston (that took about 16 years to build) by almost 50%. Thanks goes to all our dedicated coordinators and our hardworking volunteers!

Halloween Campout

Friday, October 26th, 2007

LAH’s 1st Halloween Campout was a HUGE success, we had an amazing members turn-out. There were plenty of activities including karaoke-ing to N’Sync, a ‘ginormous’ trampoline, water balloon ‘catching’, pumpkin carving contest, a huge campfire with the addition of the Houston Fire Department (not initially invited), and 1 and a half scary movie(s). Many members made new friends, abandoned old ones perhaps, and everyone had a great time. Duc Dinh won the award of loudest screamer. Look forward to the Thanksgiving Potluck!

Welcome new members!

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Dear all,

I would like to welcome every single one of you into the Lend A Hand Family. You guys survived the hardest part: getting up early on a Saturday morning. We hope that you had an informative day regarding poverty level in Vietnam and how Lend A Hand is overall. Treat Lend A Hand as if it was your own organization. You should feel proud when you tell someone that you’re a Lend A Hand member. Treat Lend A Hand like it’s your own creation.

I feel that you guys have all made very wise choices in joining LAH because we truly care about every single one of our members. If you ever need any sort or type of counseling (academic/career/personal), feel free to approach anyone of us.

Events:

All Lend A Hand events will be emailed out at least two weeks in advance. You do not have to attend every single events but you want to avoid missing as many as possible. If you have a test coming up or you have big family gathering, don’t come. However, try to learn time management meaning: try to do your homework/project ahead of time and not wait until the last minute. There are mandatory events (Lend A Hand 5 Year’s Anniversary) in which you are required to attend unless you have an excuse. We will be posting up information’s on our website regarding upcoming events for the whole year with the Lend A Hand Humanitarian Aid trip as the last one. Please find time to check the website for updates.

Lend A Hand is known for developing leaders as you will soon see. From our orientation to upcoming events, you will realize that we set members in organizing events and or big projects. You guys all need to take part in this. Those that aren’t fond of talking to other people and or just shy in general, you need to come out of your shell. Learn to use your resources wisely.

Last but not least, make sure the first reason why you joined Lend A Hand is because of your love to help others. You should have gotten a hit of reality when you saw the Humanitarian Aid Workshop by Viet and Trinh. The pictures you saw were pictures that we took as we were going on our Lend A Hand trip. Lend A Hand is making a tremendous difference in the lives of the impoverished. Think about the big Humanitarian aid trip to sponsor 20-25 open heart surgeries we’re doing next Summer.

Please feel free to email me back if you have any questions regarding Lend A Hand. I truly care for all of my members as if you guys were my own siblings. If you have facebook, feel free to facebook me (I believe it’s Duc T. Dinh). If there are any officers who seems to be uninterested in getting to know who you are as a person or of your future, please do send me an email telling me who they are and I will take care of it. As the founder, I base Lend A Hand on love and care. Afterall, how can you care for someone else (patients, impoverished kids) if you can’t care for your own friends and family?

Here is a quote that I am known for and I feel that you guys should definitely take this quote to heart:

“We must never forget our origin…for it is our roots…that makes us who we are today”~ Duc T. Dinh

Sincerely,

Duc Dinh, Founder
